David Robinson is the son of Ambrose Robinson and Freda. His father was an officer in the US Navy, so they had to move frequently. When his father retired, they settled in Woodbridge, Virginia, where David attended the Osbourn Park High School, being among the best in all sports, except the basketball – since he was only 5 feet and 9 inches(1m72) tall, he struggled a lot. However, by his senior year he surpassed his teammates and grew to be 6 feet and 6 inches tall,(2m0) and soon became a star on the high school team. After graduation he enrolled at the United States Naval Academy, and while in college, he received both the Naismith and Wooden awards. Furthermore, he was twice named to the All-American team.

In 1987, Robinson entered the NBA Draft, and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the first overall pick, but the Spurs had to wait for him to become eligible to play, since he had to fulfill his obligations towards the Navy. His professional career began in 1989, and he immediately showed the club that he had been worth waiting for. In the previous season, Spurs had the worst season in franchise history, but that all changed once Robinson stepped onto the basketball court.

In his first season, he won the Rookie of the Year award, and led his team to the play offs. The Navy had been the start of his net worth, but he was now entering the big time.

During the 1990s, Robinson dominated the NBA, winning numerous awards and setting records, including the NBA MVP award in 1995, NBA Scoring Champion in 1994, NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1992, and he also had six consecutive All-Star appearances. All these contributed to his net worth, as thankfully to his outstanding performances, Robinson earned a contract extension.

All his great performances were crowned in 1999 season, when he won his first NBA Champion ring with the San Antonio Spurs. The 1999 year was also most profitable for Robinson’s net worth, as he had a contract signed worth $14.8 million, for only that season. To speak further of his success in the NBA, before his retirement he won one more NBA Championship ring in 2003, and he is the fourth player in the history of the NBA to record a quadruple double in a game – 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 blocks – beside Hakeem Olajuwon, Alvin Robertson and Nate Thurmond. He is also fourth player in league history to score over 70 points in a game.

Overall, David Robinson is one of the greatest players ever in the NBA league, having scored over 20,000 points, more than 10,000 rebounds and 2,954 blocks during his career. He also had success with the National team, winning two gold Olympic medals in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996. Furthermore, he was a member of the National team that won the gold medal at the World Championship in Spain 1986. In 2009 he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Regarding his personal life, David Robinson has been married to Valerie since 1991, and they have three children. He is well-known philanthropist, who donated over $9 million to build the Carvar Academy, which is established as a Christian private school in San Antonio, Texas.
